FAQs

Hopefully these responses to Frequently Asked Questions will dispel some myths and help you understand some of the terminology you will hear throughout your child’s education.

When are School Reports sent home?  We are required to send home a school report once a year which you will receive at the end of the academic year.

What are Target Cards? Target Cards contain child friendly objectives for English, Maths and Science and  they enable each pupil to independently track their progress.

How do I give feedback about my child to teachers?  You can speak to your child’s teacher at Parent Consultation evenings to discuss your child’s progress.  You can ask for an appointment at the School Office to meet with your child’s teacher, you may be able to speak briefly with the teacher at the start and end of the day.  Alternatively you can email the School on communication@cromwellacademy.com .

How do I contact the Headteacher?  You can make an appointment at the School Office, you can write a letter or preferably you can contact her by email at head@cromwellacademy.com .

Do children have swimming lessons?  All children should be able to swim 25 metres by the end of Year Six.   We endeavour to support them toward this goal.

Lost Property can be found in the cloak room for each class.  Unclaimed items will be kept until the end of term then passed on to a charity shop.  It really helps if all garments bear your child’s name.

Am I allowed to take my child out of school for a holiday or a day off? Since September 2013 the government says Headteachers are only able to authorise leave in exceptionalcases.  It is unlikely leave will be authorised for a family holiday.  Each case will be considered individually.  If you do need to take your child out of school during term parent/carers should write to the Headteacher at least ten days prior to the absence.
We hope parents/carers will consider that children often find it difficult when they return to school after an unauthorised break as they have missed out on so much learning. Established friendships can also suffer.
