Committed to Achieving

Our Vision

At Cromwell Academy we pride ourselves on working closely together with parents/carers so that our children receive an outstanding education and aptitude for life-long learning.  We particularly believe all our children at Cromwell Academy have potential and that it is our goal to unlock it together.

As an Academy we are given the freedom from following the National Curriculum (except English, Mathematics and Science) and this therefore gives us all the unique opportunity to define learning that prepares our remarkable young people for their future.

The key skills in our vision for learning are to instil in our children a natural desire to be the best they possibly can be and prepare them for the future by developing their personal and academic skills whilst instilling a sense of responsibility and respect.

Successful learning environments are achieved when children feel comfortable, safe, confident and valued; when they experience compassion, humour, understanding and empathy. They remove inhibitions and bring out the best in each child and ensure they are happy at school.  Children can then in turn build on their talents and use these talents to enhance other areas of learning and skills.

Every child has an equal opportunity to personally succeed and all have a talent for something! Ambition should be built on dreams and should only be limited by imagination, not by the fear of failure.  Children develop by embracing challenge and not by shying away from it, they learn from experiences and not just the knowledge of facts; this vision will carry them into adulthood and prepare them for life.

It is essential that we equip our children with the academic skills, knowledge and concepts they need through a stimulating and dynamic curriculum, that they can embrace, enjoy and are immersed in, which develops an eagerness for more.  This intrinsic motivation and love for learning then leads them to work harder and to achieve.  This shapes them for life and arms them with the necessary tools and skills for learning both now and for their future.

It is our vision and hope that, as our children move on to the next stage of their education, they have begun to develop their capabilities to their full potential, have learnt the self-discipline of work, the skill of self-motivation, feel confident to express their own ideas, beliefs and feelings and have developed into independent learners and responsible citizens.

To see a child grow in self-confidence, self-esteem and progress on their learning journeys as individuals, is a huge privilege. We believe that our academy is a vehicle for continuing to provide learning that is a fusion of excellence and enjoyment; where they are encouraged to be healthy, stay safe, enjoy and achieve, make a positive contribution and accomplish a sense of well-being.

Commitment to British Values

The DfE have recently reinforced the need “to create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual, liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.”

The Government set out its definition of British values in the 2011 Prevent Strategy, and these values have been reiterated this year (2014).  At Cromwell Academy these values are reinforced regularly and are evidenced in the following ways:

Schools, through their curriculum, are legally bound to actively promote fundamental British values.

Cromwell Academy for many years has taught English Heritage and pupils already have developed a good understanding of the our country, its history and some of our customs, values, democracy, law, liberty, respect and tolerance to actively promote the government are asking all schools to focus on, and show how, the school’s work is effective in securing these British Values as a school we approach this using many different strategies some examples are listed below.

As a school we have pupil leadership through the School Council, Eco Council and House Captains. All of these groups lead work within the school to further promote British Values and English Heritage.

As part of our curriculum we also enhance British Values through assemblies and special performances and gatherings such as Ladies in school Day. Men in school Day, Grandparents in school day linked to Armistice Day as well as Christmas Performances, visits from Santa at our school Christmas fete, Harvest festival assemblies, International Day activities amongst many other culturally diverse theme days.
