Reading
Pupils have access to a wide range of fiction and non-fiction texts drawn from a number of different schemes. A wide range of reading material is available at each child’s personal reading stage. The current banded schemes includes Oxford Reading Tree, Collins Big Cat and Jolly Phonics. The current phonic scheme used is Letters and Sounds. Our children take part in accelerated reader, taking reading tests to check their understanding and vocabulary quizzes to check their SPAG knowledge.
Aims and Values, British Values
The school aims and values of Cromwell Academy and the British Values can be found by clicking here
We agree with the Department for Education’s five part definition of British Values:
-
Democracy
-
The rule of law
-
Individual liberty
-
Mutual respect
-
Tolerance of those of different faiths and believes.
As part of our curriculum we enhance British Values through assemblies and special performances and gatherings such as Ladies in school Day. Men in school Day, Grandparents in school morning linked to Armistice Day as well as Christmas Performances, visits from Santa at our school Christmas fete, Harvest festival assemblies, International Day activities amongst many other culturally diverse theme days.
